– First announcement

Dear Colleagues & Friends,

As the Chairman of the Scientific Committee, I am happy to inform you that the IV World Congress on Mountain Ungulates will be held at Munnar, Kerala, India, from 12-15 September 2006. Kerala is a fascinating State and called “God’s own country” and it will be a great opportunity to visit the State and the nearby premier Protected Areas.

Mahout School

The Kerala Forest and Wildlife Department is opening an school for Mahouts(Elephant Drivers). The School is being opened at Kodanad, near Perunbavoor, an hours drive from Cochin(Kochi). According to the Chief Wildlife Wardn of Kerala Shri. B.S Corrie, this is the first such venture in the country and will be a pathbreaking event in care and management of Elephants.The centre will train Mahouts from all over India in the nuances of scientific care of Elephants.
