Sad News - Thames Whale Does Not Survive Rescue Attempt

All attempts to save the Thames whale failed. It died as marine specialists escorted it on a barge down the Thames toward the sea. The mammal suffered breathing problems and muscle spasms when it convulsed and died. Tony Woodley, a director of the British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) group said that despite the sad outcome, the decision to move the whale - costing the group about £100,000 - was correct and they had given it their "best shot".

Do you agree that SONAR is harming dolphins, whales, and other marine species? I've heard some who believe that this whale was trying to send a clear message in protest to the use of SONAR. Can you reference any articles on this phenomenon?

There is no doubt that Sonar harms Dolphins and whales.Environmentalists have attributed recent mass beaching to Sonar.A day before 20 rough-toothed dolphins died in the Florida Keys in March the US naval ship USS Philadelphia had conducted exercises with Navy SEALS off Key West, about 45 miles from Marathon, where the dolphins became stranded.

I made fun of this story on my blog, but I did feel sad when the whale died, being a bunny-hugging sort of person.

It was a lot of money to spend on a whale in a city where there are so many poor people though.

Indeed Tahrman. I wish that there were a way to convince militaries and other agencies to cease the use of SONAR, but I'm not sure how feasible that is... at least, not in the near future.
